Susan Werner

If you don’t know Susan Werner you should! If you know Susan Werner you know that she is one of the most talented musician, singer, composer, lyricist, and performers you will ever come across. Blessed with a great voice and gifted guitar and piano chops, the multi-talented Werner grew up in Iowa and made her first public performance at age five, playing guitar and singing in her church. At 11, she began playing piano. In high school, she played saxophone in jazz combos and sang in drama productions.

"(Werner is) a songwriter who is in such complete command of her gifts that it's almost scary" --- All Music Guide

Werner attended college at the Universithy of Iowa, where she earned a degree in voice. She continued her studies at Temple UIniversity in Philadelphia, where she also studied opera. After she decided to end her budding opera career, Werner became inspired after seeing Texas folksinger, Nanci Griffith. Werner was playing with a jazz trio when she began taking her guhitar around to coffehouses on the folk circuit in Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York City.

Come and help us welcome Susan Werner back to the Peterborough Players' stage!

Vance Gilbert

How to describe Vance Gilbert? Funny, tender, vocal virtuoso, gifted guitarist, sophisticated story-teller, uniquely colorful and colorfully unique? (Check out those shoes and glasses!) Vance can make you laugh, cry, and think, “Man, he’s gooood!”

When he initially burst onto the Northeast singer-songwriter scene in the early 90's, buzz spread quickly. Who was this multicultural arts teacher knocking them dead at open mics? Opening all of Shawn Colvin's 1992 Fat City tour flung the door wide open for the artist and he strode gracefully through it, taking acoustic America by storm and by surprise. "With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god, it was enough to earn him that rarity: an encore for an opener," wrote the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in its review of a show from the Colvin tour.
Requests came in from artists as widely varied as Arlo Guthrie and Anita Baker to have Vance as an opener. The late George Carlin had him open 140+ shows over a year and a half’s time. Most recently comedian and actor Paul Reiser has added Vance to many of his stand-up shows, as have R&B roots rockers, the Subdudes. Known equally for his vocal and lyrical virtuosity and his comedic stage banter and stories, he’ll grab your attention and he won’t let go.
